Pied-billed Grebe Released!

Two weeks ago, about midnight, alert neighbors, found a young Pied-billed Grebe on a road in Nekoosa. She likely was downed by a severe storm and then had the bad luck of being hit by a vehicle. Once on land, grebes are like loons, in that they cannot walk. Diane and Ken from Wisconsin Rapids, transported the young grebe to Raptor Education Group, Inc. for care.
The grebe had internal injuries. She fought hard; first to float without sinking, then to move her legs, swim and finally she was ready for release.
After a final meal of minnows, the young Pied-billed Grebe joyfully reclaimed her place in the wild. Her exuberance was contagious as we watched her dive and play under the water. Enjoy this short video of her release today. Thank you everyone involved in the Pied-billed Grebes rescue and Diane and Ken for transport.
