Young Bald Eagle gets a little help from some friends. Antigo Daily Journal This immature bald eagle, injured near Lansing Michigan was transported to THE RAPTOR EDUCATION GROUP, INC in Antigo, by an eagle aficionado in the form of a private pilot from Toledo, Ohio. The rather complicated flight arrangement became necessary after commercial airlines halted flights of animals following the Sept 11 terrorist attack. Flight instructor Ed Dilts, (shown on the rt.) and his student pilot are shown with Marge Gibson, the centers Executive Director, and the young female eagle. The bird was transferred from The University of Michigan and the Raisin River Rehabilitation Center near Lansing. She is undergoing rehabilitation for a wing fracture at the REGI center. “We get avian patients from all over the country due to our specialized flight building,” said Gibson. “ Little did we realize the terrorist attack would affect our work with wildlife work. Without private pilots that are willing to help out these birds may well have been lost to the wild.”
