Antigo Daily Journal Sauk Praire Eagle Dec 13,2001 Two young bald eagles wearing radio transmitters will be released today (Dec 13th) y on the Wisconsin River. Both birds will be wearing radio transmitters to record their movements. This is the second year of the tracking program that is a cooperative effort between Antigo's Raptor Education Group, Inc /International Crane Foundation/Ferry Bluff Eagle Council.

The research project has provided scientists with volumes of information previously unknown about winter movements of bald eagles and success of eagles raised by foster parents at the REGI facility. Last year all the birds survived providing new information about roost sites as well as interactive behavior between the different age groups of Bald Eagles.

The second phase of the release will be on January 19th in Sauk City during the annual Eagle Days Celebration. The public is invited to attend.

Update 12-23-01 The young male bird is flying up and down the Wisconsin River with great energy. The female is somewhat more sedentary. Both birds have been observed soaring. Both birds are chosing good roost sites and interacting well with other eagles.
